Headford and the local area
Headford is a small historic town just north of Galway, set along the gentle waters of the River Corrib and surrounded by green farmland and old stone architecture. The river has shaped the area for centuries, supporting fishing, travel, and settlement while giving the region a quiet, timeless atmosphere tied closely to nature and local heritage. Headford has so much to offer, be sure to check out the local amenities while you visit.
The theme of this years festival is “The Corrib: Land, Water, Air". This year’s festival shines a spotlight on the natural environment that shapes Headford and its surrounding landscape. Through a programme of guided walks, on-water experiences, wildlife activities, and creative events, Headfest will connect people of all ages with the beauty and importance of the Corrib.
From its waters and wildlife to its stories and traditions, the Corrib is at the heart of the festival, inspiring exploration, learning, and a deeper appreciation of the place we call home.
The Corrib programme of events is funded by Galway Rural Development through LEADER funding.
